To taste a Daniel Marshall Cigar is to discover the unique spirit and style of one of the most outstanding cigars from the premier tobacco regions in the world.

From every stage of tobacco selection, cigar craftsmanship, to slow and carefully monitored Spanish Cedar Box-Aging, is in itself a quest for perfection.

Limited Reserve Box-Aged Daniel Marshall is made only in exceptional harvest years from three noble tobacco varieties: Connecticut grown wrappers, Mexican grown binders, and Dominican grown long filler. The tobacco is chosen from the very best plantations of the different regions that own the choicest tobacco that possess the virtue of being able to continue to live and mature.

Connecticut shade grown wrappers brings finesse and elegance to the cigar. The supple binder leaves, grown in the famous San Andres region of Mexico, impart a delicate spice and flavor. After being patiently cured for a minimum of four years, the Dominican filler leaves impart a degree of power and length to the cigar.

The tobacco leaves from the three varieties of tobacco, picked from the selected parcels of land, are then skillfully assembled to complement each other, thus enhancing the harmonious balance of each Daniel Marshall.

Among the team master tasters, is personally Daniel Marshall. He insists on being involved in the entire process from choice and development of the blends, overseeing the training of his hand picked quality assurance department, to the tasting and signed release of each months allotment.

In order to assure each cigar meets the strict requirements set forth by Daniel Marshall and to be worthy of maintaining DM's reputation for consistency and style, once imported, we are one of very few cigar manufacturers in the United States that methodically hand check each and every cigar. We grade for quality, discarding any rejects and the tedious color-shading task is performed by our experienced selectors. We then hand check the cigar for firmness and consistency, before meticulously packing with an Italian silk ribbon in our specially crafted Spanish Cedar Slide Top Cabinets. Each Cabinet is front marked with our original gold accented and hand enameled badge, ensuring each cabinets authenticity.

We choose the best constructed, most beautifully rich, rare and delicate wrappers for each cigar that makes up a full box of 25 cigars that will deserve to be banded with the distinctive Daniel Marshall band.

Each box of Daniel Marshall Box-Aged Cigars will not be released from our Spanish Cedar climate controlled maturing rooms until a minimum of one year has passed, and the taste test has been conducted by Daniel Marshall.

This essential maturing time ensures each DM Cigar its smooth, unique, and distinguished character.

On some occasions, the cigars will not be released following the one year sleep period as he does not feel that they are quite ready for release and that additional aging will develop them to a superior level of taste and smoothness. We insist that each DM Cigar is ready for optimum smoking enjoyment, and worth to meet the expectations of our demanding clienteles educated palates.

With each DM Cigar, it is Daniel Marshall's goal to create and encourage his cigar to evolve beyond being just a cigar to become something more. To loose all resemblance of its original origin; leaves from a plant.

To achieve this, he has combined the finest maturable tobaccos, renowned cigar craftsmen and his beliefs in the benefits of Box-Aging. Liken this goal to the way the best cognacs, wines, champagnes, cheeses, and caviar's taste. The best of anything does not even resemble to connoisseur the original classification the item falls under. Top quality tobaccos and the maturation process is the magic that assists the Daniel Marshall Cigar to become not just a cigar but something beyond. In aging, the cigar becomes different. It acquires its full maturity. The cigar gains, with time, a supplementary bouquet, a deeper resonance - what lovers of vintage wines call body.

One can note the handwritten date and individual cabinet identification number inscribed directly onto the lower right and left from corners of each DM Slide Top Cabinet.

Daniel Marshall believes that the important "true rest" or "maturing period" begins the date the cigars are imported and come under his direct control, rather than the date the tobacco leaves are harvested from the fields four years prior to the blending and construction of the DM Cigar. This individually inscribed date on each box of DM Cigars represents that we refer to as the Box-Age and will reflect each months allotment date of import and when we put them away to rest in our cedar aging cabinets. This important date represents in a very definite way the length of time the tobacco has matured and benefited from this aging period and will serve as a more accurate way for the cigar connoisseur to judge the quality and merits of the cigar in comparison to un-accountable methods other vintage cigar makers are applying to identify the age of the cigar.

The first of the two numbers opposing this date inscribed on each cabinet is the individual cabinet identification number that corresponds to each cabinet of cigars. The second number represents the total number of cabinets making up the total allotment. These numbers allow us to register, track and record the day the cigar goes through its final quality control inspection and carefully hand packed into our Slide Top Cabinets.

We are reserving from each shipment of cigars ten percent of the total season's allotment and will box-age these for a minimum of two years. This special allotment, signed and dated by the artist, will be available on a request basis and identified as The Daniel Marshall Artist Reserve.

Each of the DM Cigar's year's allotment for release reflects and expresses the characteristics of the particular harvest year. Summer storms plagued the plantations in August 1993. However the 1994 Harvest benefited enormously from an intensely hot summer with sufficient rain, resulting in a magnificent harvest of the whole of the Premier Tobacco region.

When tasting a Daniel Marshall, an initial subtle blend of acacia honey and caramel impression gives way to aromas of grilled cashews with hints of café au lait, culminating in notes of rich cocoa and brioche. On the palate the cigar is round and complete with a long finish - a feeling of simple perfection.

Over and above the characteristics of the harvest years lies the unique and consistent style of Daniel Marshall - the elegance and smoothness. The first impression of subtlety evolves into a harmonious complexity, both on the nose and palate.

Each Box-Aged Cabinet of Daniel Marshall Cigars is released when ready for enjoyment, however the cigars can and will continue to mature in its cabinet or loose in your humidor of correctly stored; away from light within the correct ranges of temperature and humidity: 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 65 to 75 percent humidity.

This cabinet of cigars is best kept alive, sheltered in a Daniel Marshall Humidor where assurance of proper ambiance and preservation is achieved.

Since 1982, Daniel Marshall has created an extensive range of humidors with built in self-regulating humidification units that automatically maintain the interior of the humidor at a constant humidity. The DM Humidor is available in a wide range of sizes from travel to large desk top in precious woods and hand lacquered finishes with natural Spanish Cedar interiors. Each DM humidor is crafted and warranted to last for countless years to come, remaining one of the most sought after humidors in the world.

Daniel Marshall personally savors his cigar blends with a full bodied, vintage French Bordeaux. Providing the favorite accompaniment to his cigars due to the similarities between the DM cigar and the fine Bordeaux's mellow and compatible aromas of tobacco and white truffle. Each of the Daniel Marshall 1992 Limited Reserve Selection cigars are aged for four years at the factory before being rolled. After being expertly crafted, the cigars spend another year in Marshall's custom humidor before they are released to the public. Of the panelists that tasted D.M.'s D.R.'s, four of them were absolutely convinced that they were Cuban. It looks like a round of hat eating is in order. Highly recommended.

Handsome humidors constructed from the finest hardwoods just beg to be filled with the best cigar from your collection. Ranging in size from travel and desktop models that store a handful of cigars to elaborate cabinet styles that can take up residence in the most lavishly appointed office or home, these humidors range significantly in price based on their size, construction, materials, and finish. Some of the finest are made by Elie Bleu, Daniel Marshall, Michel Perrenoud, J.C. Pendergast, and others, and they come at a price, believe me! Daniel Marshall . . . . $$-$$$ Dominican Republic, Honduras . . . . Medium Daniel Marshall makes some of the most beautiful humidors in the world, much prized among celebrity cigar smokers who can well afford the price these babies command. His name is also on some very handsome cigars that sport some of the more elegant bands in the business. Two blends are available: Dominican and Honduran. Although both are worth trying, the Honduran is fuller-bodied and has a more complex blend of tobacco of the two, and it's also more expensive. When I first heard about these cigars, I didn't believe the hype, but when I got around to smoking the one I had in my humidor, I was sorry I hadn't bought more. Although priced a bit high to rank as an everyday smoke, they're good enough to want to smoke often. Definitely worth looking for.
